Login Security

The new platform supports several new security features to safeguard your banking accounts and information.

Enhanced Security Measures

One-Time Passcode Requirement

The system provides multi-layered security through a built-in feature known as a One-Time Passcode (OTP). It is required on first-time login; whenever the system detects abnormal activity at login (such as use of a new device); and in order to approve (release) an ACH or wire. The OTP functionality delivers an authentication code to the secure access targets (text message or voice) that you set up.

During your first login, you will be prompted to create your secure access targets. The system sends an OTP to the chosen target, which you will then enter to confirm your identity. This extra layer of security is designed to protect your accounts and data even if your password is somehow stolen or compromised.

New Security Challenge Questions

During this first login, you will also be asked to establish five security questions. These will be used for authentication purposes should you forget your password.

Fraud Prevention Tips

Spotting a Fake Website

  • Check the website’s connection. The website should be secure and show a padlock symbol next to the address bar.
  • Evaluate the URL. Closely look at the URL to ensure it exactly matches the website you are trying to access – that there are no additional characters, misspellings or missing characters.
  • Look at grammar and spelling. A common red flag of fake websites is poor grammar and misspellings.
  • Watch for invasive advertising.

Spotting a Fake Mobile App

  • Verify the app is legit. Confirm that the app is the official, verified version before downloading. If you suspect that something is off, contact us to ensure you are downloading the correct app.
  • Only use official app stores. Only download apps from official stores like the iOS App Store or Google Play.
  • Utilize multifactor authentication. Whenever available, use two-factor authentication and consider installing a mobile antivirus protection app that can detect malware.
  • Reconsider before jailbreaking your phone. If your phone is jailbroken—has bypassed certain restrictions placed on the operating system of the device—avoid conducting mobile banking on that phone. Such devices often lack security procedures that could protect you from malware.
  • Keep your mobile device up to date. Make sure you have the latest security and operating system updates downloaded.
  • Don’t click links in texts and emails unless you verify the sender. Be wary of links in emails and texts, and ensure that you know who they are from. Don’t fall for fake URLs or texts from someone posing as your bank.

What type of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) does the new system have at login?
Similar to today’s environment, you may be challenged at login. Challenges occur when your login activity falls outside of your normal environment or pattern. During your first login, you will register for Commercial Connect’s verification process – a One-Time Passcode (OTP). You will be prompted to create secure access targets – text or voice numbers that will be used for future logins. This is the system’s built in multi-factor authentication, that is used to verify your identity when the system detects unusual login behavior or a new device.
